Apart from solutions for wet chemistry analysis, FOSS solutions for the vegetable oil industry are based largely on Near Infrared (NIR) scanning technology – a well proven technology that provides straightforward and trouble-free application at various stages of food oil refinery.
NIR Solutions are offered either as laboratory instruments for batch analysis, or as at-line solutions for control rooms and fully automated on-line solutions for the production line. Specific features of NIR technology include:
Speed – Providing immediate results for key parameters, NIR technology gives users the power to spot problems and act promptly.
Analytical accuracy – NIR instruments make it possible to build robust and stable calibrations for your food oil products.
Outliers – FOSS NIR solutions include what is known as outlier technology to help you check that results are correct. The outlier feature ensures that you do not use a false value because of variations in sample characteristics or because the wrong calibration has been chosen.
Temperature stability – Results obtained will not be affected by time of year, low and high extremes in samples or ambient temperature.
FOSS scanning technology also offers a high degree of flexibility in application. For instance, the Oils and Fats Analyser is supplied with a set of calibrations matching the majority of requirements for refinery, olive mill or laboratory requirements.
Calibration for NIR solutions are based on Artificial Neural Network (ANN) or Partial Least Squares (PLS) regressions.
